We are so privileged to have joined the Freedom Session family and to partner in this exciting ministry. In studying and presenting the Freedom Session material, I have found it to be creative, well structured, and biblically sound. Through the message and power of Jesus Christ presented in this material, many have already begun to experience God's healing touch in the deep wounded areas of their hearts. I strongly encourage you to join this amazing journey called "Freedom Session."

Recovery Randy & Recovery Rhonda

Can those struggling with sexual addiction and those who've been sexually abused find healing while attending the same Christian recovery program?

Freedom Session believes that it is possible to create a healing environment where all are welcome and accepted.  Early in our recovery experience, we felt an uneasy tension in the room between men who'd exploited women for selfish pleasure and women who'd been exploited/abused.  We held a special evening called "the Price of Peace" where we addressed this tension up front with a message that if Jesus died for all of us, knowing the extent of our evil hearts, then it was possible for us to learn to love each other or at least accept each other as we sought the healing He promises us.

During this evening, we read off two true stories from participants who were in the room.  We disguised their names, calling them Recovery Randy, a married man with children who'd struggled with sexual addiction since childhood, and Recovery Rhonda, a woman in her 50's who'd been abused as a child and raped as a teenager.  This was one of my most memorable ministry nights of my life as Jesus did an incredible work of healing in our midst.

If you are a woman, we wanted you to understand that, while those exploiting women are fully responsible for their actions, they were not born sexual addicts.  They were children, then teenagers with feelings, insecurities and fears like everyone else.

If you are a man and struggling in sexual addiction, we wanted you to understand the pictures you indulge are of real people with feelings and inner desire to be protected and loved, not a play thing for your pleasure.  Indulging pornography keeps the demand for exploiting more women, and as our society becomes sicker, young girls.

These stories are not meant to shame anyone, but to open our eyes so that we might see each other as Jesus sees us.

Recovery Randy (sexual addiction)

Hi, my name is Recovery Randy and I attend the men seeking purity small group @ Freedom Session.  This is the group for guys who struggle with sexual addiction and lust.  I wish I could tell you who I am, but I'm afraid of how you would then look at me.  My "issue" - at least the surface issue or "drug of choice" which brought me here - is pornography.  As many of you know, struggling in this area carries a lot of shame and guilt.  I am married and have children.  My sin has deeply hurt my wife and at times I have feared may also affect my children.  But God is doing a healing work in my life that brings me much hope and gives me the courage to share my story with you.  But before I do, I want you to know that by sharing it, I am, in no way, trying to make excuses or justify what I've done.  It's just my story and I was hoping that once you hear it, you may be able to see beyond my "issue" and see a bit of my heart.  Because I, like you, really do long to be loved and accepted by others.

Recovery Rhonda (sexual abuse)

Hi, my name is Recovery Rhonda and I'm part of the women seeking wholeness group @ Freedom Session. This is the group for survivors of sexual and child abuse, as well as physical & emotional abuse. We are often classified and even classify ourselves as "victims".  I now realize God doesn't view me this way, so I no longer do either.  And I no longer live my life, thinking the world owes me something.

I could tell you my name - but I think it's more important that you realize my story is the story of many women attending Freedom Session.  As a result of our woundedness, many of us have developed coping skills of control and /or isolation & silence, which make us feel protected and safe. It makes a lot of sense, to me at least. You see control over my body, sexuality and emotional core was taken away from me and so CONTROL became a core value of my life and my preferred "drug of choice."  But so far, control has only lessened my pain. It has never brought happiness or healing. I am so grateful to Jesus Christ who has begun a healing work in my life, enabling me to lay down these destructive habits. It's hard, but it feels good to learn that Jesus is my Security and my Protector.
