Today's Harvest is Broken

Marriages are failing, pornography enslaves and the scars of abuse steal our children's future.

My wife and I have been pastoring for 20 years and know the ministry challenges you are facing.  We also know they won't be getting any easier.

For years we have led people to faith in Christ and then discipled them with methods designed for relationally healthy people.  Of course this works well for some but most of the people attracted to Christ today have fairly significant pain in their lives and some unhealthy ways of coping with it.  Those who grew up in abusive environments,...

...and those struggling with pornography, food additions/eating disorders, alcohol/drugs, the buried shame of an abortion and those walking through separation and divorce, we've attempted to counsel or refer them to others.  But it's not working and pastors are beginning to recognize this.

Recently, after meeting with a group of Pastors/Christian leaders frustrated with the level of brokenness and immorality in their churches, God impressed upon us the following message: 

"It is no longer acceptable or credible for us to lead people to Christ through the church and then refer them to outside counseling or secular healing programs to become whole, after which we will disciple them.  The harvest is broken and our discipleship MUST include bringing an experience of healing to those we minister.  If we were serving in Africa, our discipleship would need to include hygene, clear water and the basics of food.  But we're not - we're ministering in North America and people's needs include deep emotional and relational healing."

This message became the foundation of a one day intensive seminar called Discipling a Broken Harvest that we brought to pastors and Christian leaders in 12 cities across Canada during the Spring of 2010.
