Level 3 FS Training: Basic Deliverance

taught by Pastor ken b. dyck, author of Freedom Session.

fall 2011 dates TBA

ken_and_bonnieThis course begins with the basics of demonology and deliverance and is based on a belief that Jesus expected all spiritually mature believers to exercise authority over evil spirits and be capable of casting them out.  The goal of this course is to de-mystify the ministry of deliverance, take away the fear of the demonic and equip believers to systematically discern and cast out the majority of demonic spirits without getting in over their heads.

For Freedom Session facilitators, this is considered Advanced Facilitator Training Level 3.

Why take this course?

Anyone or any church that embraces a healing ministry (like FS) will eventually come face to face with the demonic.  Sometimes the encounters will be obvious.  Other times those we minister to will experiece a subtle spiritual attack - confusion, clouding of the mind, extreme fear or depression.  At times you may come under demonic attack yourself.  Often these attacks can be defeated by prayer, quoting Scripture or by choosing to believe/declare God's truth over satan's lies.  But sometimes a power encounter is needed.  And when it is, there are few people in churches (including many pastors) trained to effectively deal with demonic forces.

Most deliverance models seem to require a certain spiritual gift mix or personality and this always frustrated me.  While some will be more effective at deliverance than others, we believe that a great deal of deliverance can be learned and practiced by every believer.   If you agree, you may want to take this course.

Just so you know, in our ministry, we don't usually start with deliverance.  Our ministry toolbelt for the hurting and those in bondage includes the full Freedom Session journey where a lot of emotional healing occurs and spiritual darkness is dealt with.  We strongly believe in "Prayer Ministry" for in depth emotional healing (see our Level 2 Training Seminars).  And of course we believe in good Christian counseling.  But some of the stronger demonic spirits and strongholds resist these ministry methods and that's where deliverance is needed.  Unfortunately there is a lot of confusion in the area of deliverance and a fair amount of ignorance.  We are working hard in preparing this course to offer a balanced, effective and thorough deliverance ministry tool that pastors and Christian leaders can trust.

Much of the methodology in this course will be based a deliverance manual called Casting Out Demons by Doris Wagner who has one of the most respected and effective deliverance ministries in North America.

What are my qualifications?

I met my first demon in 1993 in a man named "Jim" who attended the church I was pastoring.  I had been a pastor for two years and knew (theologically) I was supposed to have authority over this spirit but I could also tell that (practically) it wouldn't be obeying anything I commanded it to do.  In God's grace, He provided us a mentor couple who understood and walked in much of what we'll be teaching you in this course.  He helped me deal with the demons in "Jim" and then he and his wife discipled us to walk in the authority Jesus has given us.  He also introduced us to the idea of a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and encouraged us to begin our own journey.   If you or your pastor wants to know where we stand theologically, we are Spirit-filled conservatives who want to experience and walk in all that God has for us...we just want it to be authentic and glorify Jesus rather than man/the devil.  And we have given a good portion of our lives to help others experience the same.

My mentor has since gone to be with the Lord but the battle down here continues.  Seventeen years and many experiences later, we believe God is calling us to share some of what we've learned (and continue to learn) in the area of setting captives free with you.  We've invested the last 15 years of our lives into ministering to broken people and have worked hard at developing transferable and proven ministry tools that equip others to set people free in the name of Jesus.  If you're familiar with Freedom Session, you know we take a fairly bold but balanced approach to dealing with our past wounds and sinful patterns of relating.  You'll also know our passion for equipping others and making our teaching transferable.  We'll be taking a similar approach with deliverance.   We want all who take the course to leave with the humble confidence and authority needed for setting free - in Jesus' name - those who are trapped in demonic bondage.

One last thing: If you do register for the course, please prayerfully consider any areas in your life that God has been speaking to you where you've been resistant.  We would be foolish to think we can step into satan's territory without an increase in his attempts to discourage/discredit us.  Willful sin (resisting the Spirit's leading) is something we need to deal with.  And secondly, I would encourage you to increase the time you spend in prayer, the Word and memorizing Scripture.    See you in class.
