Why a group for Pastor's and Pastor's wives only?

My guess is that you already know the answer - pastors and pastor's wives are not immune to hurt, conflict and disappointment.  It's just a bit harder for us to find a safe place to work them through.  This will give you an community of your peers - people who understand.  And it will give Bonnie and I the opportunity to join you on your healing journey.

Over the past 10 years while serving at Cedar Grove Church in Surrey, we've had numerous pastors and pastor's wives from other churches attend FS (and most of our own staff/elders).  Many had marital conflicts, ministry conflicts and unresolved issues from their developmental years.   Others had secrets deep in their hearts or habits that were destroying their integrity.  They came because they needed a safe place where they could just be themselves with people who understood.  Last year, there was a special pastor's wives group offered at a FS ministry @ Southgate Church in Langley.  They too, had a great experience as did a number of pastors who also formed a group.

Bonnie and I have spent the last 8 months ministering to pastors and leaders across Canada, helping them begin healing-discipleship ministries in their churches.  In mid summer, we were asked by pastor in our city if we would consider teaching FS for pastors only - he wanted to come and knew of a few others who would.  We prayed about it and said "yes."   Within a week of our decision, we learned of another church in Surrey [Bible Fellowship] who is running FS exclusively for their entire pastors/leadership team & spouses.  In meeting with both pastors, we came to the conclusion that we could combine the two groups for the large group teaching that I would present live.  They will look after their own small group discussions.  I would be free to take the (male) pastors who sign up into my small group and my wife will take the Pastor's wives (and female pastors.)  In other words, the groups won't really mix but we can all benefit from joint worship and coffee breaks.  They will have about 30 leaders taking part.  We are hoping we will have an additional 8-10 pastors and 8-10 pastor's wives.

You can read more about our story by clicking this link.  What I do want you to know is that we are very excited about sharing our journey with you.  We've been in pastoral ministry for 20 years now and we do understand the unique pressures of ministry.  We too, understand the need for confidentiality.  That is why we will be only allowing one pastor and one pastor's wife from any particular church to attend.

Who can attend?

This group will be open to vocational Pastors and Pastor's wives ONLY - in other words, you are a paid staff member of a recognized church.  To optimize freedom in small group sharing, only one pastor and one pastor's wife will be allowed from any one church.  You do not need to come as a couple although we think that would be an excellent idea.  We anticipate some pretty strong bonds will be made and the prayer support for each other will be amazing.  That said, we know it is not always possible.

If both a pastor's wife and a female pastor from the same church wish to attend, we will accept the pastor's wife.  Please don't be offended.

Location, Times and Costs

Location: Bible Fellowship Church   15100 66A Avenue, Surrey, BC

Times: Tuesdays, 7:00 to 9:15  (September 21, 2010 through May 17, 2011 - we will break for Christmas)

Cost: The only cost to you will be for your Participant's Guides.  $20 each.  You will need three throughout the course.
